New Delhi, Mar 31 A two-seater vehicle --&apos Moon Buggy&apos-- designed by students of a city engineering institute for the rugged lunar surface -- will take part in a NASA contest in the US state of Alabama next week.

The four-wheel Moon Buggy, which can attain a speed of 30 km per hour, have been developed by five undergraduates of the Delhi College of Engineering (DCE), who left for the US today to take part in the April 3 and 4 event.

"The lunar surface is a challenging terrain and the vehicle has been made in a way so that it can move over hurdles easily. The two-seater buggy will be driven by two pilots -- a male and a female,"R K Sinha, Dean ( Industrial Research and Development), DCE, told PTI.

In the&apos NASA Great Moonbuggy Race 2009&aposat the Marshall Space Flight Centre at Huntsville, Alabama, the vehicle will be tested on a 1.12 km lunar simulated track comprising craters, rocks, lava ridges, inclines and lunar soil, he said.
