"Nobody reads an editorial"
A foreword

To put it mildly, you are staring at a revolution. If the word 'revolution' brings images of 1917 rushing to your mind, or even those of Musharraf's bloodless coup, then two things must be clarified.First,we have a slightly different definition of 'revolution'.A close approximation would be one of the many revolutions led by Colonel Aureliano Buendia in 'One hundred years of Solitude'.Second, I would also like to declare that none of us are (known) communists.

Despite the suggestive name, 'The Undertones' does NOT represent counter-culture.However,sooner than later, we expect many counter-culture publications to spawn. To these people, we would represent the culture they would be fighting. So,if we must be classified, we are mainstream, exclusive, and brilliant.

We represent the average DCEite. Some facts would be distorted in the interests of readability. There have been some instances of the same in this document. Since this editorial already reads like a disclaimer, we must iron out certain other issues.

Of course, we promise you some home-brewed literature. We are looking to publish poetry, short stories, and long ones. This magazine is primarily a forum for students of this college who fancy themselves as writers, poets or artists. So,this could your scribble pad for the Booker that's coming along the way.The contributors of this magazine need not be students of our college, but we do look to maintain a certain standard. To all accusations of elitism, we formally plead guilty.

One of the objectives for this magazine is to bring together discussions regarding our college, country and politics. Each month, we would come up with a feature relevant to you, and we would welcome your comment. For example, past student unions have left us disillusioned, and we do next to nothing to bring about change.Yet, the day we will step out of our country, we will claim to be the 'largest democracy in the world' and so on.

It must be mentioned that the first issue was not democratic in setup.Content was largely obtained by invitation. So, if you were not asked to write for this issue, it was largely ignorance on the ed-board's part of your writing skills. It might be a good idea to read this month's issue, it is somewhat indicative of the general feel of the magazine.Anything that qualifies as literature in your book can be sent to us.

The reader can leave comments about each article. In the unlikely case that an article incites a great and/or a polarized response, we could even discuss it in the canteen till the issue is beaten down dead.If you haven't guessed already, the idea is to get literature going in this institution.

As a final note,I predict quick death for this publication. However, for years to come, abortive attempts would be made to revive it.Each such attempt would be our success.
